BALD HILLS CREEK, CROWS NEST, QLD
This is without a doubt, one of my favourite spots to go bushwalking, any time of the year. Located on the banks of the picturesque Bald Hills Creek, Hartmann Park is a a bushland gem, hidden away on the edge of the town of Crows Nest.
Hartmann Park was generously donated to the then Crows Nest Shire Council in the 1970's by Mr Hubert Hartmann.
Fortunately this section of precious bushland was not included in the recent large scale burn by council, that was done at adjoining Bullockys Rest recently, and human influence has been minimized. Due to this protection, Hartmann Park has thrived and there are some truly beautiful plants and trees to be observed on the walk. Grasstrees are prolific and many had recently flowered. The flowers of the golden Hairpin Banksia's (Banksia Spinulosa) were stunning amongst the winter landscape. The Smooth Bark Apple Gum trees (Angophora leiocarpa) grow alongside the sandstone bounders and there are plenty of Superb Blue Fairy Wrens darting in and out of the prickly low shrubs. Granite Wattle was in flower and there was a small amount of water in the pretty creek.
